The higher the derma roller size (needle size), the more it will bleed, but it also depends on the part of the body where treatment is done. Some parts of our body have more fat deposits, so there will be less bleeding.

You can find in the market derma rollers, derma pens or derma stamps with needle sizes from 0.2mm up to 3.0mm. However, more common are the ones with needle sizes from 0.2mm up to 1.5mm.

If you need to use more than a 1.0 mm derma roller and you do not like to feel pain or discomfort you can use numbing cream (topical anesthetic).

Which derma roller needle size to use?

Derma roller needle size will always depend on the treatment and on the part of the body the treatment will be done. There are some rules which may help you to choose the right derma roller size, but you need to remember that rule number 1 is to feel your body. If your skin is very thin or maybe too sensitive, you may need to use a smaller needle size. Moreover, if you are just starting your adventure with micro needling, you may start slowly, with a derma roller 0.2mm or derma roller 0.25 mm and after a few treatments go for derma roller 0.5 mm and more.

Derma roller 0.25 mm

Derma roller 0.25 mm or dermaroller 0.3 mm will be the best for every second day use to improve the effectiveness of beauty products. These dermaroller sizes do not help with collagen induction. It can be used on your face, body or scalp. Remember that if you would like to use some cosmetics after your treatment to improve effectiveness, make sure that your product does not contain irritating ingredients. Otherwise, wait 24 hours before application. Using derma roller 0.25 should not cause any pain or bleeding. Recovery time is usually 1 to 2 days.

Derma roller 0.5 mm

Derma roller 0.5 mm can be use 1 or 2 times per week. This dermaroller size is the best for hair loss treatment, to improve skin texture and tone, dark circles, dullness, and can improve hyperpigmentation problem, while also ensuring minimal collagen growth. It can also thicken the epidermis (top skin layer), for use on the body, scalp or your face. With dermaroller 0.5 mm you can get almost the same results as with dermaroller 0.75 mm or 1.0 mm derma roller, you just need more treatments. It may produce minimal bleeding. Recovery time should be 2-3 days.

Dermaroller 0.75 mm and dermaroller 1.0

Dermaroller 1.0 and 0.75 mm may be use every second week. 1 mm dermaroller is the best for anti-ageing treatment, improvements of fine wrinkles and lines, shallow scarring, sun damage, cellulite and stretch marks. Can be used on face and body. Because of deeper skin penetration, it may need 4-7 days for recovery. It will produce mild to moderate bleeding and it may hurt a little. Be aware that if you gone use that derma roller size more than twice per month you may have some sides effects, like slowed collagen production.

1.5 mm derma roller

1.5 mm derma roller should be used only every 4-5 weeks. It is great for deeper scars, acne scars, burn scars or stretch marks. You can use it only on your body, legs, and stomach. Be aware that it will be painful and bloody. If you decide to use it on your face, we would advise some professional dermatologist supervision.

Derma roller 2mm or more

Derma roller 2mm or more can be used no more than every 5-6 weeks. It can help to improve deep scars and after-tattoo scars. We recommend using that derma roller with numbing cream. It can be used only on the body. It may bleed a lot and recovery time is usually about 7 days.

Dermaroller size – Important additional information

For the beginners, avoid using a needle size above 1mm. It may be painful and can cause some side effects if not used properly.

Generally, always start your first micro needling treatment with a derma roller, stamp or pen with smallest needle size, to see how your body reacts to it.

Derma roller size for face normally should be no bigger than 1mm. but if you have some face area with deep acne scars, you may need to use a 1.5mm derma roller. You can use a derma stamp or derma pen as well, which is easier to use on small areas.

You should never repeat your treatment, regardless of our recommendation, if your face is still irritated. You can only start micro needling treatment if your face or body is fully recovered.
